SPEARFISH, S.D. — Caden Strasser is currently wrapping up his sophomore season as a member of the Black Hills State University track and field program.
Strasser placed 24th in the 1,500-meter run at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference track and field championship conducted in Golden, Colo., in late April. He clocked in with a time of 4:22.14.

The RMAC features such universities as Colorado School of Mines, University of Colorado-Colorado Springs, Colorado Mesa, Chadron State (Neb.), Colorado State-Pueblo, Western Colorado, Fort Lewis State, and South Dakota School of Mines.
This season, Strasser posted a best time of 4:00.64 in the 1,500 at the Jim Duncan Invitational, which was conducted on the famous light blue track at Drake University in Des Moines.
He also competed in the 800 run this season, recording a time of 1:57.30 at the South Dakota Mines Open on April 18 — which was good enough for first place overall.
Strasser also was second in the 800 run at the Scott Walkinshaw Open, a home meet for Black Hills State in early April, with a time of 1:59.87. His best time occurred during the indoor season at South Dakota State (1:55.81) in mid-February, finishing 13th.

He also participated at other meets during both the indoor and outdoor seasons, and was a member of the Yellow Jacket cross country program.
Strasser’s best 8,000-meter time was 27:09.1 at the Bauer Classic on Nov. 2, 2024, at the venerable Hart Ranch Resort in Rapid City. His best collegiate time was 27:00.9 at the Battlin’ Bears Open in Billings, Mont., on Oct. 6, 2023.
Strasser graduated from PAS in spring 2023 as a magna cum laude student, and he established a new Arrow school record in the 800 at 1:58.01. He also was a multi-time state qualifier.
Caden Strasser is the son of Dr. Cory Strasser and Jamie Strasser of Rapid City, S.D., formerly of Pipestone. He is studying math education at BHSU.
