VICTORIA, Texas — The community gathered Saturday to celebrate Black history with a parade and daylong celebration in Victoria.
The Black History Parade began at Patti Welder Middle School and traveled along East North Street before ending at the Victoria Community Center. Multiple organizations, churches and cheer groups participated, showcasing creative floats, decorated vehicles and displays of school and community pride.
Residents lined the streets to cheer on participants and celebrate Black history and culture. The parade also included friendly competition, with awards presented for the best float and the most stylish car. Winners received trophies.
Following the parade, the celebration continued at the Victoria Community Center, where families enjoyed barbecue, shopped from local vendors and watched live performances.
Organizers said the annual event is meant to honor the past while inspiring future generations.
