Each February, we recognize Black History Month as a time to honor Black culture, community, and contributions throughout American history. This year’s national theme is “A Century of Black History Commemorations,” honoring 100 years since the first Black History Week was held in 1926.
It’s a time to study, honor, and preserve the contributions that people of African descent have made and continue to make for this country.
AFGE’s Women and Fair Practices Department (WFP) and AFGE B.L.A.C.K. will be using the month to honor the contributions of Black Americans and continue the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s teachings to “Dream, Lead, and Serve” by calling members to action for justice, equality, and community activism.
