SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WSBT) — Hundreds are celebrating Black History Month on the ice at Howard Park!
The event hosted by the MLK Jr. Dream Center aimed to celebrate black history and culture through music, skating, community, and the Black History Market.
Attendees enjoyed skate sessions, a skating performance, a live DJ, food trucks as well as a market featuring 20 local Black-owned businesses and vendors.

“With the Black History skate night aspect of that, a lot of times our community, we don’t go ice skating. That’s what Black History, that’s what the Black Heritage is all about, diving into things that maybe weren’t made like for us, but it made us in doing that,” Volunteer Coordinator of the City of South Bend’s Venue Parks and Arts Special Events Team Demetrius Kennedy.
