Black Family Wellness Expo to offer free health resources in Miami Gardens | Health Wellness

Three South Florida chapters of The Links, Incorporated, will host a free community health event this weekend focused on improving wellness outcomes for Black families.

The Greater Miami (FL) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, Dade County (FL) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, and Miami-Biscayne Bay (FL) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, will present the Black Family Wellness Expo: Pathways to Health on March 21 at the Betty T. Ferguson Recreational Complex in Miami Gardens.

According to a press release from the organization, the event will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and aims to address health and economic disparities while improving quality of life in the Black community.

The expo is part of a nationwide effort led by The Links, Incorporated, known as the Black Family Wellness Expos, which mobilizes members across the country to promote healthier outcomes for Black families. While the national initiative was scheduled for March 15, the Miami-Dade event will take place March 21.

Organizers say the initiative focuses on several areas of wellness that can affect quality of life, including pediatric health, senior and family wellness, as well as women’s and men’s health.

The free event is open to the public, and organizers say participation is available to all community members regardless of race, color or national origin.

Programming planned for the expo includes family fitness classes for adults and children, a senior wellness circuit, and educational resources focused on mental health. Attendees will also have access to free medical exams and hands-on cooking demonstrations presented with Eat Well Exchange.

Additional activities scheduled during the event include family estate planning information sessions and a Neo Soul yoga session led by Black Yogis of South Florida. The expo will also feature a live DJ and other activities for families.

According to the press release, programming is designed to include participants across all age groups, from infants to senior citizens.

Founded in 1946, The Links, Incorporated, is an international nonprofit organization with more than 17,500 members across 300 chapters in 41 states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of the Bahamas and the United Kingdom.

The Black Family Wellness Expo: Pathways to Health will take place at the Betty T. Ferguson Recreational Complex, located at 3000 N.W. 199 St. in Miami Gardens. Registration and additional information are available at blackfamilyexpo.eventbrite.com.
