Seattle Mariners back next generation of Black-led baseball through new community fund

You’ll see more than just baseball on Sundays at T-Mobile Park in Seattle’s SODO neighborhood.

The Seattle Mariners honor the 1946 Seattle Steelheads by wearing Steelheads throwback jerseys for all Sunday homes games in 2026, honoring the 1946 Negro league team. The cream-colored jerseys feature black lettering.

The team is also backing the next generation of Black-led baseball through a new community fund.

ARC Seattle co-anchor Tyrah Majors spoke with Omari Salisbury from the Mariners Care Foundation. Salisbury is also the founder of local media company Converge, which is an ambassador of the Steelheads initiative.
