Scenes of grief and desperation unfolded in Democratic Republic of the Congo as healthcare workers in protective suits carried Ebola victims’ bodies into disinfected coffins at Rwampara General Hospital. Families described loved ones suffering severe symptoms including vomiting, bleeding and swelling before dying. The World Health Organization has declared the outbreak an international public health emergency, warning that the rapidly spreading Bundibugyo strain may be far larger than official figures suggest.

I’ve said this before to China but this time, I will say this to the DRC. STOP EATING BATS AND MONKEYS!
I’m a South African, and we have a serious problem with illegal immigrants entering our country undetected.
By the time Ebola is detected it’s already too late. Closing all our borders will definitely not prevent infected people from entering our country illegally.
The thing about this lethal virus, is that it kills very fast, and in order for it to survive, it leaves the dead host quickly and jumps to the next available host . Therefore, this virus is the most infectious upon the death of the original host. Africans have a specific ritual with the death of a loved one. They prepare the body by washing it, dressing, kissing and touching the deceased in preparation for the funeral.
This ritual is their culture when dealing with death. These funerals are done in most villages across different countries, with devastating results. Knowing this, South Africa are prepared to combat this virus. We have qualified and trained staff, equipped; hospitals, treatment, quarantine facilities and laboratories, to combat this deadly disease. But the most concerning factor regarding the spreading of this disease, is the illegal entry across the border and into our country.
It’s extremely worrisome that the USA has stopped its aid in managing these outbreaks. All funds were stopped last year by the US and other countries.
All I can say is wake up! Ebola is very fast, extremely devious in hiding, and if it jumps to “1” person, and I mean ONE PERSON, who is travelling to the US, you are in big trouble. You only need one person!! Think about that.
Even though we in South Africa are geared up to deal with an Ebola outbreak in our country, it’s not going to make any impression globally. The only way this virus can be stopped is by international aid. Stepping in and providing the necessary aid should be a priority. Funding is needed desperately. Facilities/hospitals, qualified medical staff, equipment/labs everything needed to detect and safeguard the population. Also in desperate need of hospitals to treat cases. We thank the Lord that Ebola hasn’t striked in South Africa…yet.
