Kenya summit represents ‘demarcation point’: France ‘wants to do business’ with African continent

Nadia Massih is pleased to welcome Dr. Douglas Yates, Author, Political Scientist and Professor and at the American Graduate School of International Relations and Diplomacy. President Emmanuel Macron is co-hosting the Africa Forward Summit alongside Kenyan President William Ruto. entering what Dr. Yates describes as “a demarcation point.” After years of mounting hostility in West Africa, military ruptures in Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger, and the growing presence of Russia and China across the continent, Paris is seeking to redefine its place beyond the historic confines of Françafrique.

  1. How would a country like Niger want to trade with France, a country that wants to buy it's uranium for 1/100th of the global uranium price? France is not known for fairtrade when it comes to relations with its former colonies

  2. Why are you French so obsessed with Africa? Just focus on yourselves and Europe, supposedly you have a garden so why are you putting your nose in the supposed jungle? All you know is destabilising and stealing. Go make friends in the America's and Asia and leave Africa alone.

  3. France is desperate. It cannot stand on its own two feet without the exploitation of African nations and its former colonies. France has taken from nearly every country it has associated itself with. Just look at the state of Haiti. It shows how economically dependent France has been on Francophone countries around the world.

  4. France is so obsessed with Africa—and we all know why. Without the wealth and resources of Africa, France would become a Third World country, for it possesses no natural resources of its own. Its only chance of survival lies in plundering the wealth of Africa.

  5. The entitlement is breath taking, if our brothers in the West of the Continent are looking to USSR THEN let them, Why not. And also you are welcome to Kenya we are a differernt breed over here in the East.

  6. Hold on I just finished the video to hell with this man that you ask to speak on Africa. Mali took a bad bet by working with Russia yet France was there for how many years and still never ended the insurgency. The people on the ground in these countries don’t want France so STOP trying to make it seem like it’s just the government. A lot of countries that weren’t even French colonies. Don’t like France either across Africa. The Haitians have always been right!!

  8. We( Africans) HATE you France.
Useless France is One among those European countries plus America that has done everything possible to put Africa. We know that and you too will one day know that.
    Wicked criminals.

  9. PESSIMISTS Comparing Kenya to West Africa is a category error. West African Nations are dealing with a colonial-currency (CFA) and security crisis that Kenya simply doesn't have. If we isolate France over Mali, Burkina Faso etc, we’d have to isolate the US or China or South Africa among other nations over their own geopolitics. Smart diplomacy isn't about isolation; it’s about interests.

It’s 2026. With the UN expansion in Nairobi and Kenya hosting the #AfricaForwardSummit, we aren't being 'colonized'—we are being 'capitalized.' KENYA have the leverage to dictate terms, not just sign them. Pessimism from a number of our West African brothers and some from our very own country should be aware that such approach won't build our rails or power our grid; strategic negotiation will.

    Let’s stop projecting the 1970s onto a 2026 reality..

  10. France's History makes it a very poor partner in anything. We Kenyans reject them, coz we know what they did to the Sahel states etc. France has proven to be parasitic and NOT symbiotic.Any country in Africa that has worked with France has never benefited. We would rather work with the chinese

  11. All western countries are facing record deficits. Why do they spend money on 3rd world countries? To stabilize their currencies. Africa does not need a single loan. They can do without.

  12. We only have one Africa called Africa and AU RECs like EAC.
There's nothing or no people in Africa called francophone, anglophone, lusophone etc
Africans are not defined and divided by foreign non-African languages and foreign non-African Abrahamic religions.
Africans are Africans lets promote teaching of kiswahili and English together with many other African languages.
We have no such tribes in Africa called Francophone, anglophone, lusophone,Muslim or Christian.
AFRICANS ARE AFRICANS… NO MORE NO LESS
