Hundreds of residents lined the streets of Montclair on Saturday for the 36th annual Montclair African-American Heritage Parade and Festival, a longstanding community tradition celebrating African American history, culture and contributions to the township.

The parade stepped off from Glenfield Middle School and made its way through town before ending at Nishuane Park, where festivalgoers gathered for an afternoon of live music, dance performances, food vendors, community organizations, art and family-friendly activities.

Hosted by the Montclair African American Heritage Foundation (MAAHF), the event has been held annually since 1990 and draws participants from across Montclair and the surrounding region.

This year’s celebration honored JoAnn McCullough, Wil Young and Montclair Brewery as grand marshals. The foundation also presented posthumous honors to Marc Williams and Tyrone Jenkins and recognized Jack Farrell as this year’s ambassador.
