South Africa Set to Secure Duty-Free Access to China as Trump Extends AGOA | Firstpost Africa | N18G

South Africa is navigating a high-stakes geopolitical balancing act as trade tensions with the US push Pretoria closer to Beijing. While China remains South Africa’s largest trading partner, the return of Donald Trump to the White House has severely strained the African nation’s relations with Washington. Facing a 30% US tariff and uncertainty surrounding the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), the Ramaphosa government is aggressively boosting ties with the East. Trade Minister Parks Tau recently secured a Framework Economic Partnership Agreement with China, paving the way for South African exports to get duty-free access to the Chinese market. Meanwhile, Trump has granted a one-year extension to the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), but concerns remain over how it would affect South Africa.

  1. I wont lie these politicians don't think their decision through, more than 100k people lost their jobs because of cheap vehicles and now more thousands of people will lose jobs in steel mining sector😢, Un employment is rising, people are happy that China is d de-industrialising our economy and turning us into consumers 😢

  2. They are false ! Go live in the USA with the Tangerine Tyrant who will do and say anything to deflect attention from his failing leadership and ever-inreasing economic woes!

  3. There are only two ways to keep a spouse:

Mutual respect, natural relations & genuine partnership.

Threaten her, make her dependent, insult her, break her confidence and box her in until she submits.

On the global stage, the same logic applies.

🇨🇳 China operates more like Option 1 — long-term partnerships, economic cooperation, infrastructure, mutual benefit.

🇺🇸 The USA often operates like Option 2 — dependency through finance, coercion through sanctions, psychological and narrative dominance.

    One builds loyalty through cooperation.
The other maintains influence through pressure.

History will judge which model creates more stable relationships.

  4. I am proudly South African 🇿🇦

Trump under estimated President Ramaphosa. Myself as ordinary citizen I knew that the tarrifs will backfire on Trump. Afterall China is living a 2099 life which I believe will assist Africa's technology coz we are still living in 1999

AGOA is a slave trade which benefits only USA certainly not African countries.

We should impose all our rear earth minerals against USA and the West.
