TULSA, Okla. — Cyclists from across Oklahoma and beyond are expected to gather in Tulsa next weekend for an event aimed at honoring the legacy of Black Wall Street while supporting local efforts to fight food insecurity.

The Community Light Foundation is hosting its annual “Ride to Remember Black Wall Street” from June 19 through June 21. Organizers say the weekend-long event combines cycling, education and community service to remember the resilience of Tulsa’s historic Greenwood District.

The main ride takes place Saturday, June 20, with route options designed for riders of all experience levels. Participants can choose from 15, 35, 50 or 70-mile courses that travel through scenic areas and locations tied to Tulsa’s history.

The weekend schedule includes:

• Friday, June 19: Packet pick-up and community check-in.
• Saturday, June 20: The main ride begins and ends near Greenwood, just steps away from sites connected to Black Wall Street’s history.
• Sunday, June 21: Riders can participate in a recovery ride to wrap up the weekend.

Organizers say the event is about more than logging miles on a bicycle. This year’s ride includes a dedicated educational component focused on remembering the victims and survivors of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre.

At the finish line, participants will take part in a collective moment of remembrance. Riders are also encouraged to visit the free exhibits at John Hope Franklin Reconciliation Park and take advantage of guided tours highlighting Greenwood’s history.

“This ride is an opportunity to ride unfamiliar roads, learn vital history, and honor the legacy of Black Wall Street,” participant Joshua Carter said in a statement.

After crossing the finish line, riders will receive commemorative medals recognizing their accomplishment. Organizers say food trucks, snacks and refreshments will also be available to celebrate the event and foster community connections.

According to The Community Light Foundation, proceeds from the ride support the organization’s mission of addressing food shortages and nutritional insecurity in local communities.

How to register

Registration remains open through BikeReg, but organizers say spots are filling quickly. Online registration is scheduled to close at 7 a.m. Saturday, June 20. Riders can also pre-order official event T-shirts while registering.
