Dr. Arikana Criticizes USAID’s Role in Africa

Former African Union ambassador Dr. Arikana Chihombori-Quao has accused USAID and other Western aid agencies of using humanitarian programs to interfere in African politics. In a recent interview, she claimed the organizations present themselves as helping with healthcare, education, and human rights while actually supporting efforts that destabilize governments.

Dr. Arikana said many leaders in Africa and other developing regions welcome the reduction of USAID’s influence, arguing that the agency often backs opposition groups under the guise of democracy advocacy. She also questioned the long-term impact of aid programs, asking for examples where USAID had significantly improved education or healthcare systems.
