Washington missionary stranded in Haiti amid violent rebellion and political unrest

A missionary from Washington state is stuck in Haiti following a rebellion of armed gangs.

A mass prison escape of thousands of dangerous criminals in early March prompted non-stop violence in the troubled Caribbean nation that is enduring unstable political leadership.

Jill Dolan’s family never expected the danger they ran into when trying to leave Haiti through Port-au-Prince two weeks ago. She said gang-related gunfire erupted outside the airport, prompting her flights to be canceled.

From a compound about a mile from the airport, she told KOMO News over Zoom on Wednesday her goal is to make it to her daughter’s wedding in late March but claims there’s not much help for American civilians who are stranded.

  1. Her own fault for being there. Won’t feel sorry if something happens to her like happened a month or two ago to other missionaries. You aren’t heroes, stop pretending like you are.
