The HBCU Alumni Weekend is back for a three-day festival to celebrate HBCU alumni and the Birmingham community.

You can kick off the weekend with a bit of reconnection at Hemings. HBCU alumni and supporters will be there at 6 p.m. representing their alma matter. Guests will able to celebrate while networking and building fellowship.

Saturday will be a picnic in George Ward Park between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., hosted by the HBCU Alumni Association. This is the Association’s fifth annual HBCU Unity Picnic, where alumni are encouraged to come together over food, games and music.

Sunday will see two events. First will be the Unity Worship Service at Southside CME Church, starting at 11:15 a.m. Service will be followed up with the HBCU Alumni Weekend Brunch at Howard Unlimited from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Besides showing your pride, local Black-owned businesses will be highlighted across the Magic City.

“For more than five years, the Unity Picnic has united HBCU alumni from across the region,” said HBCU Alumni Association President John Dendrick. “This year, we’re excited to expand that vision into an entire weekend that celebrates our shared culture, strengthens our community, supports Black-owned businesses and invests in the next generation of HBCU students.”

All of these events are free and open to the public.
