Thousands of protesters have marched in major South African cities this week, demanding that undocumented migrants leave the country.
Demonstrators say illegal immigration is putting pressure on jobs, public services and contributing to crime, while critics warn the protests risk fuelling xenophobia and attacks on foreign nationals.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has urged protesters to remain peaceful, while acknowledging the need for immigration reform.
Police say 25,000 migrants, most from other African countries, have been repatriated so far.

Why didn't she report the crimes committed by undocumented migrants? Many of them get away with crimes because they are undocumented, making it difficult for the authorities to identify and find them.

55 yr unemployed, post graduate South African here.. of Indian descent here. My ancestors were brought to SA by the British from the 1800s as indentured labourers (modern term for slaves). Most of us rose to a better life through sheer hard work.. Little help from the government. The reality is that about 7 million of us are paying taxes to provide free education to the poor, up to university level and free healthcare. Our facilities are bursting at the seems. SA cannot afford to continue providing the same to illegal immigrants. They are hardworking, but they do not pay taxes.. They sell expired food which in some cases led to deaths of poor local kids. The poor local population have come to realise the 7 million taxpayers cannot continue funding their social benefits if this continues.. Especially as most of the middle class are leaving SA for greener pastures overseas. Our government is also incompetent and corrupt!
