Indiana Black Legislative Caucus holds town meeting in Evansville

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – Earlier today, members of the Indiana Black Legislative Caucus held a town hall meeting in Evansville, offering community members a chance to engage directly with their elected officials.

The town hall provided a platform for community members to gain insight into the legislative process and learn about bills recently signed into law.

Attendees also had the opportunity to ask questions about issues affecting their local community.

City Councilwoman Tanisha Carothers moderated the free event.

State Rep. Earl Harris Jr. believes holding caucuses like this are important because they create direct lines of communication between lawmakers and the people they represent.

“Engagement and advocacy is huge, we also encourage people to get involved in this process. When you look at session and what happens at the state house everything we do has an impact on your life whether it’s healthcare, education, environment, agriculture, roads, everything,” says Representative Earl Harris Jr. “We want to make sure people are engaged and come out and talk to us and get involved in the process.“

The IBLC plans to continue its series of town halls across the state, aiming to foster greater community engagement in the legislative process.
