Black and brown entrepreneurs will sell and promote goods and services at an upcoming Lawrence vendor market.

The “Blk & Brwn Market” is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2 at Marriott SpringHill Suites, 1 Riverfront Plaza in downtown Lawrence.

Douglas County CORE and three Lawrence entrepreneurs created the market to promote creators in the margins, according to Moniqué Mercurio, CORE director of operations. Event planners, food caterers, bakers, jewelers, artists and more vendors will be present.

Co-hosts include Sherell Yarbough, owner of Sherell’s Custom Treats; Chantel White, owner of wellness businesses Cute & Cut and Balance; and Tasha Woody, community organizer.

“As Femme-identifying people rooted in Black and Indigenous communities, we recognized the deep need for an event that truly centers and uplifts our people,” said Mercurio, Ohlone Costanoan Esselen Nation. “… These spaces and events are built with intention, to nourish and sustain the small businesses and community members who often get left out of mainstream narratives. This is how we make sure no one gets left behind — by centering those who’ve always had to fight to be seen.”

There are 30 vendors, who will be stationed indoors and outdoors, signed up so far. Interested vendors can email Mercurio at monique@douglascountycore.com to inquire about outdoor spots that are open until noon Friday, Aug. 1.

See the Facebook event page for vendor announcements and more information.
