Berkshire-born nonprofit Music in Common returns to the Guthrie Center in Housatonic at 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, for an album release concert celebrating Black Legacy Project, Volume 2, part of the Guthrie Center’s annual Troubadour Series. Doors open at 7 p.m.
Volume 2 features 12 reimagined and original songs created by musicians in the Mississippi Delta, Boise, Atlanta, and the Berkshires. Berkshire tracks spotlight artists Wanda Houston, Billy Keane, Matt Cusson, Rufus Jones, and more. The album’s first single, “It’s About More,” was written and recorded locally.
The concert will showcase songs from Volume 2, the full Black LP repertoire, and selections from the Music in Common songbook. Performing are MIC band members Bree Soul, Katherine Winston, Michael Aaron, Bryan House, and MIC Program Manager Trey Carlisle, joined by founder Todd Mack.
The Black Legacy Project uses music to celebrate Black history and foster racial harmony. Its first volume debuted in 2023; Volume 2 releases Aug. 22.
