MADISON, Wis. (WKOW) — The Black on State Festival returned for its second year on Saturday, transforming State Street into a celebration.

Founded by Ashley Moseberry to create spaces where Black and underserved voices are centered, the event built on the success of its 2024 debut, which drew nearly 13,000 attendees.

This year, organizers estimated between 15,000 and 18,000 guests joined the festivities.

The festival’s new feature, the Rodeo Remix VIP Experience, offered ticket holders a prime view of performances along with beverages.

Entertainment included music by DJ 4000 and DJ Dee Franko, with Kayla Lewis Allen serving as host. Performers featured Chakari Daezhare and a line dancing class led by Keena Atkinson of R’oujie Wellness.

Families gathered at the Kids Corner in Peace Park from noon to 4 p.m., where the Big Red Reading Bus and Madison Children’s Museum provided activities.

Local vendors, food trucks, and creative activities lined State Street, while artists supported by Dane Arts showcased their work. 

The festival reinforced its mission of celebration, equity, and visibility in downtown Madison.
