In US news and current events today, the Black Lives Matter protests and George Floyd protests have shone a light on what most Black and African Americans already knew: that America can be an unsafe place for a young Black person.

Most Black children are raised knowing that they may be targets of police brutality and police racism, and this Black Tiktoker has offered the 16 tips his mother gave him on how to stay safe as a Black man in the US. As the Tik Tok shows, even the most innocent actions can lead to a violent response from the police through racial profiling, and its long past time for America to change to a place where Black people don’t have to live in fear.

  1. OR!! Don't break the law, don't kill people that look like you all the time, stick around and raise your kids, stop pretending white people are the problem, take advantage of how it's easier for you to go to a university, stop making excuses for the vile behavior of people that look like you, And maybe try to listen to music that doesn't exploit negative behavior.

  2. Black Americans only die by cops when they do crimes and shoot at cops the same as everyone. Ofc there are bad cops but most of them aren’t shooting cause ur black it’s cause ur a criminal

  3. Dont stare at white women as if thats something normal to do? Compromise with the cops? How about shut up instead of screaming i need to get my chiiiiil he in schoooooow

  4. THE BLACK VICTIM NARRATIVE IS GETTING TIRED

How we see ourselves in light of our past and current circumstances determines the role we play. We’re either the victim, blaming others for our lives, or the victor, taking responsibility for our lives.
