How Australia Is Cracking Down on Internet Trolls

How Australia Is Cracking Down on Internet Trolls

Australia is leading the fight against social media companies. Since the Christchurch terrorist attack on a Mosque in 2019, the government has passed a flurry of legislation which has already and will regulate the tech giants. The government’s most recent Online Safety Bill grants the eSafety Commissioner greater powers. We will hear real stories from people who have been affected by online abuse, harassment, and hate speech. The film will explore whether increased regulation works, should we hold social media companies responsible, and can we rely on policy to solve societal issues?

  1. Ok so You are telling me that if I do the same thing in real life and go somewhere and tell someone many Bad things, I could get up to 5k fine for defamation but if I do almost the same thing in the internet I could get a 100k fine?!?!?! That is just insane and idiotic

  2. Trolls? Basically anyone who exposes their corruption and lies. Of course the big tech and corporations will collude with the government to frame whistleblowers and truthers as trolls. They're basically corrupt tyrants that should be removed from office.

  3. I heard Australia was going to be the next China. The Bill doesn't stop just death threats but it was pretty much stop messages that are not even offensive but certain groups of people won't like it. And that's disturbing. All this will do is make people distrust their government even more and I feel bad for the Aussies right now because their freedom of speech is under attack because if you disagree with the vaccine mandates you're immediately banned and you get fined over $100,000 and you're labeled and anti-vaxxer despite the fact that you may even just criticize the government on how it's handling it and you still be fined.

  4. internet trolls wasnt the right word for this for sure , cause when i clicked on this video and especially with the intro i was expecting trolls harassing people with dumb jokes but that wasnt the case

  5. Going after straight white men is the new norm. Asking the wrong question that the woke can't answer is becoming illegal. We must all listen to politically correct blatant obvious lies and never question the government bullshit narratives.

  6. These fines are a joke. Media companies won’t pay for it. Typical Australians they aren’t the smartest breed in the world. There you go, go fine be 100k 😂😂😂
