Dr. Ayana Jordan Discuss Opioid Crisis in Black Community

The opioid crisis, once seen as mostly affecting white Americans, has been increasingly affecting people of color, especially Black men, who are losing their lives at an alarming rate.

A new study, published in the Journal of American Medical Association Network Open, revealed astonishing results.

When examining the opioid fatality rate for adults older than 55 years old, it found that while non-Black Hispanic, American Indian and white men die at a rate of 12.8 per 100,000, the rate of opioid deaths for Black men is 40 per 100,000 people.

Dr. Ayana Jordan, addiction physician and associate professor of the department of psychiatry at New York University, joins Marc Lamont Hill on “Black News Tonight” to discuss.

All this and more on “Black News Tonight.”

  1. I don't know how this is happening, I can't get any kind of pill without a steroid in it** They never prescribe me anything that would make me forget my pain** Are these men on good health ins. cus it's only generics that they give to medicaid/medicare patients, how they getting 'em? buying them in the streets, I don't know of blks that can get prescriptions like that* Now vets can rx like that are these men vets?? Ask***

  2. Racism? Back when the opioid crisis was first coming onto the national radar and it was a predominantly white phenomenon, I remember there was no shortage of black voices talking about it being a “white people problem” with barely contained (and sometimes outright) glee.

  3. Its BECAUSE THEY MESSING WITH WHITE WOMEN.😂 AND NOW THEY DOING METH . I FEEL NOTHING FOR THEM. THEY DIDN'T CARE ABOUT THE CRACK THEY PUT IN OUR NIEBORHOODS. AND BLACK MEN DOING THIS ITS ON THEM. THEY CHOOSE TO DO THESE DRUGS KNOWING WHERE THOSE DRUGS COME FROM WE BLACK PEOPLE SURE DIDN'T MAKE THEM.
