For the "just one life saved is reason enough to ban guns", the obama asministration did a study on gun crimes and concludes between 500,000 and 1,000,000 lives are saved every year by personal firearms stopping active , violent crimes . If roughly 30,000 people are killed by gun per year now in the USA , that means the bulk of those encounters are not lethal even with a gun being used. It also means you will be directly responsible for half to one million people dead yearly if guns are taken, for that one life saved from the ban. Sadly, It's not like home invasions and other crimes avoid children. a ban will just hurt law abiding people as they do.
Now the good guys can defend themselves against the bad guys who already carry and don't care about the Laws.

New York State is wrong to not allow protection from forced entry or violent personal attack, even in public. There are armed criminals, with drugs prevalent in low income areas. As a senior citizen I should gave a RIGHT to protect myself. I have had public harassment.

The original name of the struct down law was "The Sullivan Act". It was named for "Big Tim" Sullivan the then Mayor and Convicted Organized Crime Boss of New York City. The sole purpose of the law was to allow his criminal underlings to be armed and weaponize the Police against his criminal competition. It never had anything to do with "Public Safety".
