A woman fell overboard from the 10th deck of a Royal Caribbean cruise ship Sunday and survived following a dramatic hour-long rescue in front of concerned passengers.

The unnamed 42-year-old passenger of the Mariner of the Seas plunged into the water roughly 27 nautical miles south of Punta Cana at about 5:44 p.m., the US Coast Guard said in a statement.

Cruise ship crew members launched a small rescue boat and were able to locate her in the vast ocean and safely bring her back on board, according to the statement.

  1. The railings on the side of cruise ships are chest height. You cannot accidentally fall. She will have climbed onto or over the railings and then lost her balance or something. She is 100% at fault.

  2. How did somebody fall off the cruise ship unless they were sitting or standing on the railing is the only way the ship's railings come up above your waist line almost to your elbow so she must have been standing or leaning or sitting on a railing to fall off
