Burkina Faso’s military government says it has foiled a fresh coup attempt led by a formal army official. The junta says several people have been arrested in connection with the plot trying to destabilise the country. The junta has blamed a former high-ranking military official Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba for leading the plot. Damiba took charge as Burkina Faso’s interim president after ousting a democratically-elected leader in a coup in 2022. But in less than a year, he was himself overthrown in another coup which was led by the current military chief Ibrahim Traore. Traore has faced coup attempts in the past and has survived assassination attempts. Will there be another coup in Burkina Faso? Watch for more.
