Despite gaining independence in 1962, the Caribbean country is one of many former British colonies that still has the monarch as their head of state. The bill will go through a series of readings and will need to be approved by two-thirds of Jamaica’s parliament.

If the Jamaican constitutiion don't change to empower the people,remove the king and have the same ruling class following the same colonial laws,the crown will still have influence.
Make sure that the people are front and center of the change.
Hope that this means all Jamaicans loose rights to British Passports and return back to Jamaica

If they want their independence let them advocate for it. If they already have their independence let the sucede from Britain. There is plenty of things that they should be doing not doing away with the monarchy. Jamaica has crime and corruption and should be looking to its own house not sticking its nose where it clearly doesn't belong. Its arrogance and high handedness. And if they aren't trying to susede there is only one reason for not doing this that comes to mind, MONEY they obviously hope to get a better deal. Greed and avarice.😮

Jamaica was not a colony, it was a slave farm. They killed all of the original inhabitants, that makes it not a colony, ( colloquial for colonialism), no Caribbean possession should have any connection with European monarch, or institutions
