Wanjugu Kimathi, the daughter of the leader of the Mau Mau rebellion, Dedan Kimathi, searches for her father’s remains while fighting for land rights for forgotten veterans of the anti-colonial struggle. Through the eyes of Kimathi’s widow, Mukami Kimathi, and the voices of Mau Mau fighters, the film tells their stories of British colonial rule, and the ongoing trauma of those who believe justice is still denied. We see Wanjugu fight for land for the Mau Mau descendants and hear her plea for Dedan Kimathi’s remains to be returned and buried with honour.

  1. It’s amazing how Mrs Dedan kimathi lived until her daughter started settling the Mau Mau fighters a promise kept alive and handed over to the next generation until it come to pass. Those with blood in their hands are surprised it’s happening.

  2. I’m feeling very bad seeing this documentary even if i knew their struggles before, the pain and hardships these fighters went through to force the colonizers to grant independence to Kenya is unimaginable.

  3. My grandfather who was an orphan was lured into the Nigerian army after the second world War he came home a drunkard and completely disappeared the last time I saw him was 2012 I don't know where he is now I am sure he committed suicide 😢😢😢 I will never forgive the Europeans they will suffer they're our enemies believe me today they're not good people

  4. This is so heartbreaking seeing the people who fought for freedom suffering and the government is doing nothing. 😢😢😢 Aki Wanjugu may God see you through. Thank you BBC for this documentary, it is an eye opener.

  5. As a descendant of a Kenya Land Freedom fighter, who was detained in Manyani for 6 years, it still breaks me to see that we never fully attained uhuru. The loyalists benefited, while the land and freedom fighters and their descendants got absolutely nothing for their blood. As Oginga Odinga said – NOT YET UHURU!

  6. The British Government has so much to answer for. The UK must reveal where they placed Dedan Kimathi's body. They also should compensate these people for taking their land and the current Kenyan government should do everything to help these people. This is a sin and a shame.

  7. Wanjugu, keep up the good fight. Prayerfully Ruto keeps his promise to settle the maumau fighters too…Wanjugu you are a heroine…the voice of the now aging and near forgotten Maumau hereos. It is a shame that Uhuru has been a president and he did not remember these heroes..well…😢😢😢. May Mana Freedom Mrs. Kimathi rest in peace…Kimathis legacy will never die.. we are praying for you❤❤❤

  8. History is powerful
    To remind humanity of vanity
To remind humanity of persistent immorality
To remind humanity of the consequences of doing either good or evil

The British people who did all these evils in the past will be judged by their creator for their actions.
And before the end of this current world, restitution will come to those oppressed in the past and the oppressors will feel karma.

  9. 20:59, allegedly, a white man crushed an expelled fetus due to traumatic miscarriage. What such an evil act. I cannot image that being possible.
And allegedly, same woman was raped by the evil British officer or officers.
    What in the world??
If the Kenyans are less of a human, why put your manhood in their women??

The heart of men is desperately wicked.

  10. Is there no way to sue the British government for these damages?, and don't depend on political promises, it's the lady who was beaten to miscarriage, her baby crushed, and rape , the most disturbing part🥺

  11. I don't blame the British, all this happened coz of corrupted Africans. There's a proverb: the sun never sets in the British Empire. Now what happened to them, they just disappeared even from their own country they are disappearing and Indians and other foreign countries are taking over England. But there are many good things they did like Education, Railways, Infrastructure, Business etc …. Which all the countries got freedom enjoying it.
