Finance Minister Colm Imbert says an “inaccurate measurement of the amount of fuel in the left tank” of a Caribbean Airlines plane is what led to an emergency landing at the Piarco International Airport on Monday night.
Speaking in the Senate on Tuesday, he said there was nothing wrong with the Caribbean Airlines aircraft that had to make an emergency landing at the Piarco International Airport on Monday, noting that it was simply what he called an “inaccurate measurement of fuel.”
“The captain managed to pilot the aircraft safely and landed well. There were no injuries or anything of that nature to the passengers, and the aircraft has since been withdrawn from service. But it appears the problem arose from inaccurate measurements of the amount of fuel in the left tank of the aircraft.”
Minister Imbert said the incident occurred around 10pm on Monday involving Caribbean Airlines aircraft 9Y TTC, with the emergency landing declared for flight BW1541, en route from Tobago to Trinidad.
The Minister assured that all civil aviation procedures were, and are being followed.
“One of the engines basically ran out of fuel, which caused the captain to make the mandatory announcement in accordance with Civil Aviation regulations to the passengers that they should get into the position that is recommended for emergency landing.”
He also noted that at least three employees of the airline are “not in active service at this time.”
“There are three persons involved, the pilot and two technicians, with respect to the whole question of how much fuel was in the particular tank that fed the particular engine that had the problem. So they have been, I don’t want to use a word withdrawn from service, but the aircraft has been withdrawn from service, and these three individuals are not in active service at this point in time, which is normal when you’re doing an investigation.”
Minister Imbert said Caribbean Airlines will now follow all the established procedures in accordance with Civil Aviation rules and regulations and their own internal industrial relations procedures to ensure everyone involved receives a fair hearing and the root cause of the problem is determined.

That pilot scared alot of approximate eight like sixty eight passengers😢
Nope! Allyuh only trying to fix that plane! Change the fleet. Last year that plane issues. We could not disembark because the lights went out on two occasions, the door wasn't opening. We had to use cell phone lights on the third attempt. How easy it is to simply smile on the camera to give these reports.
Well done Captain on bringing back the plane safely with no injuries.
All Been Said..Kudos To The Pilot For A Safe Landing..Lives Were Saved..!!
We can't read this report so calmly. This is an aircraft in the air, not a car on the road.
Simple put…it ran out of gas ⛽️ 😂😂😂😂😂
They want more pay and jeopardizing peoples life. Is drug and alcohol testing being implemented?
The captain did not do proper flight checks. He should be jailed for risking innocent passengers lives.
Accidents happen but negligence like this is unacceptable … madness to say the least .
CAL is still the safest Airline too travel with and kudos to those amazing pilot's thank you for landing safely ❤❤❤❤❤. If you are a pilot will CAL again thanks.
They run out of fuel due to petrotrin closure
This is ridiculous and recklessness
THAT'S PURE CARELESSNESS
So if a car runs out of service we fill the tank and go about our journey but if a plane runs out of fuel it's grounded and REMOVE FROM SERVICE? Come on now…
This is totally unacceptable for anyone to say that nothing is wrong here. Why is the flight # BW when that would have represented BWIA which is a totally inactive Airline. Are some of those much older BWIA planes being used again without proper evaluation & maintenance ? Tobago to Trinidad is a short distance to fly with any airplane issues, as For decades BWIA flew around the world of great distances without problems. To blame a crew – whether Pilot or maintenance- is absurd. I wonder who gave instructions to fill just 1ank or very little in the other since it was such a short trip. Nothing makes sene here as this will only discourage travelers from using TNT'S local airline
MUSK is being fragranced everywhere along with the color orange. What a shame. Whenever a General Election is close, STUFF happens. It's impractical to allow any government administration to consecutively rule without any positive change as is the case with the current PNM regime. Look at what this Fraud & Felon Trump is doing to innocent people worldwide – Not everything that glitters is gold and Humanity should take precedence over leadership. In my view of today's world, NO one person is qualified to run a country. Shh…tt starts from the top and rolls downhill messing up everyone in Its path. Do your own thinking but make sense of things when you do. Examine the lifestyles of those in charge. I rest my case. Be safe. Peace
I wonder what hapoen to the workers who's job is to check if enough fuel in the plain
Unless there is an instrument fault, how would preflight checks not clearly show that values were incorrect ?
One engine doesn’t run out of fuel in one tank; fuel can be cross fed from one tank to another. They were skimpy on fuel to cut cost.
Congratulations 🎊 and thank God, the pilot did an awesome job,he should get a bonus🙏
