  1. No mom Royal Caribbean is. Or to blame here at all. Sorry lady you can blame your travel agent and take some responsibility yourself. I feel bad for her kids because I am sure they were disappointed. A little bit of reading would have prevented this disappointment.

  2. I get the cruise line made a mistake but I get the feeling she wants compensation well beyond and will probably try to get a lawyer using her son’s special needs. She is partly to blame herself for not getting confirmation in writing or email before hand. Travelers need to smarten up. Get confirmation on paper. This woman should take a full refund and 25% future credit but fur her to think she deserves more is not happening

  3. Sue for mental anguish!! That a good sum she deserves. These companies should held accountable!! Lawsuit is the only element to assure mitigation of these kinds of heartaches for people and families.

  4. Always get a passport when leaving Mainland US! Especially given the recent border issues. Also Royal Caribbean offered to give a full refund. She should take it. Sounds like she's fishing for more money from them.

  5. I'm sorry but any of those three options that they gave them are more than acceptable. I understand what they did is extremely inconvenient and frustrating, but you're being ridiculous at this point

  6. For future trips, she needs to get a state ID for her son. I have a disabled child and you are able to get a state ID from the DMV. You need the same documentation that you would for a driver's license. It serves as an official ID anywhere but you do not have driving priviedges.

  7. Amazing how they were considering flying to Mexico to join the ship…. but how can they do that without passports??? This is one of those stories that leaves me with so many questions.

  8. There’s no saying when you hear one side of the story there’s the other side of the story and then there’s the true story. So if they don’t have the correct documents, that child would have not been able to get off the ship, but I’m sure he could’ve stayed on the ship.

  9. I worked for a cruise line company, they hate to give cash refunds. Since she had to pay extra money because of their mistake I can understand why she wants more than just the refund.

  10. RC was wrong, but if an incident happens in Cozumel or at another port out of the country. That school ID will be worthless. She had plenty of enough time to get a passport

  11. I went on a cruise few days ago. Had my passport and drivers license. Plus the documents I was told to print days before my cruise. Haven’t been on cruise since 2011 so this was my first time in a long time by myself.

  12. We went on a Norwegian cruise with my son, it was just me my mom and him we had his passport-to get his passport both parents had to be present. We get to the port and the cruise line asked if i had a letter from his dad giving permission for us to go and permission to make medical decisions (we have shared custody) ive never heard of that-we traveled internationally by plane before and since (its been 10 years) and have never come across this issue once. He even went on a cruise with his dad and was not asked for a letter from me. Luckily they allowed us to call his dad and his dad send an email giving permission and a photo of his id and we were allowed to board but what a way to start our trip thinking it was over before it started (his dad was 3 hrs away so if they did not allow an email we would’ve been screwed) We even checked their website after and none of this was stated on their site. I cant imagine if all we had was a student id! I understand the child is special needs but at least get a state issued id a passport or passport card if hes over 16 and doesn’t have a drivers license.

  13. I have empathy for the family. However. She chose to stay in Florida on her volition. SO no she does not deserver compensation for staying in Florida. Take the refund and don't be stupid.

  14. Umm I'm usually on the family's side on things like this, but I feel like RC was generous in their offering. She's absolutely being greedy. And with the climate as it is, a passport is essential regardless of where you go nowadays it seems like. She's being a bit greedy.

  15. My brother and his fiancée is going to go on a Disney cruise for their honeymoon my mom called our sister in law’s sister whose a travel agent and helped him book it it’s going to be a surprise for her after the scavenger hunt on Saturday anyways she asked him his birth date etc.and even said they need a birth certificate
