There have been ongoing public concerns that for years, the South African Air Force (SAAF) has been operating in a limited capacity to properly execute its mandate, due to budget constraints and unmaintained and grounded aircrafts. According to a recent investigative report published by News 24, it is alleged that “the Airforce has only two fighter jets, one helicopter and three fighter jet trainers as operable military aircraft. With more than 330 fighter jets, helicopters and planes used to rescue wounded soldiers have been lying idle for years awaiting repairs”.
