A Kenya-led mission is fighting in Haiti along with local police against gang violence. But they’re struggling and the realities of the dangerous mission are beginning to hit home. One police official has gone missing, another was shot dead. Is the mission proving to be the death trap that people were worried it would be?
DW spoke to Hassan Khannenje, the director of the Nairobi-based security thinktank the HORN International Institute for Strategic Studies, about the Kenyan mission in Haiti.
He explained that there was only so much the force of around 800 police officers could do, stressing that other partner countries needed to offer more support and equipment if they wanted to stop the gangs.

1:09 Kenya is a pretty developed nation. Rip to this woman’s husband but African women in this day and age don’t have the luxury to allow the man to be the only one working. It makes no sense from a personal/business standpoint. Now there’s a deficit to the children bc the only one working is dead. Men need to encourage woman to be self sufficient. And yes I know women are mostly hard working in other ways and even in the workforce but there’s still a deficit. Both people in a relationship should be contributing to their nations and find work even as a safety net.

Haiti is a test for the world in order to resolve the gang issues. If it can be resolved then it gives the world hope.
Only the DR can bring stability to Haiti, not Kenya. But of course the DR doesn't want anything to do with them, can't blame them either.
for what i heard from friends from Haiti here in NYC is , that the kenyan police are acting like if they are on vacation, partying with young girls, drinking and ignoring what they are there for. that's what many of them said….

The problem in Haiti is not a law enforcement problem, it’s a military/ terrorist / insurgent problem. It requires a coalition of nations, military force on the ground with air support.
So the Kenyans , and Guatemala soldiers just went to Haiti to be buried there by the gangs ?? Just asking, let Haiti solve their corruption issues them self, let our families have a father come home to its kids alive not in a coffin ⚰️

Sie setzten unsere Verfassung außer Kraft, vertrieben eure Bürger, raubten unser Gold und zerstörten das Fundament, das wir gemeinsam gelegt hatten – nicht zu unserem Nutzen, sondern um zu verhindern, was wir hätten werden können.
Deutschland, wir haben das nie vergessen.
Vielleicht steht es nicht in westlichen Schulbüchern. Aber im haitianischen Gedächtnis – und in unseren Herzen – bleibt ihr die einzige ausländische Macht, die nicht kam, um zu beherrschen, sondern um zu kooperieren. Ihr habt mit uns gestanden, als andere gegen uns planten. Ihr habt gezeigt, was Respekt über Kulturen und Ozeane hinweg wirklich bedeutet.
Heute, wo die Welt Geschichte neu betrachtet und Diplomatie neu denkt, ruft Haiti Deutschland dazu auf, sich an das zu erinnern, was einst möglich war. Wir glauben noch immer an Partnerschaften, die auf Würde beruhen, nicht auf Dominanz. Wir glauben an Vermächtnisse – nicht an Ausbeutung.
Ihr wart mehr als Handelspartner. Ihr wart Familie. Und die Geschichte wird sich immer daran erinnern.
