Africa reacts after US General accused Burkina Faso’s Ibrahim Traoré of Misusing Gold Reserves

Recent remarks by U.S. General Michael Langley, head of the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), have sparked significant controversy across Africa. During a U.S. Senate hearing, General Langley accused Burkina Faso’s President, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, of misusing the country’s gold reserves for personal security rather than national benefit. These allegations have been met with widespread backlash from African citizens, activists, and political figures, who view them as an infringement on Burkina Faso’s sovereignty and an example of Western interference in African affair.
In response, the Burkinabè government issued a communiqué condemning the U.S. general’s remarks as “regrettable” and “gravely inaccurate.” The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed outrage over the allegations, asserting that such statements distort the country’s reality and undermine its leadership’s credibility. The government reaffirmed its commitment to fighting corruption, promoting transparency, and equitably distributing national resources.

  1. America needs to worry abt our own country and leave everyone else to sink or swim. Not our business. Sick of our country having to save everyone else. We have our own problems an people to tend too. If Africans want this guy to lead them and if something starts going bad we will NOT save them. Africa has spoken so let it be. We have more important matters to focus on. 🇺🇸 best of wishes to Africa.

  2. I think American had enough time to do what they need and didn’t follow through so they don’t want you thr any more you should leave not try to manipulate to stay in the country

  3. General Langley and the committee of rogues should "keep quiet" and go find another continent to deliberate about. Imagine the hypocrisy and the audacity to criticise the leader with a vision of true African-led development. He said, “China and Russia are trying to follow the mark the U.S has laid down in Africa”… I hope those two countries would not follow in the U.S ways and replicate what they do best in Africa, because that would be another disaster.

Although no external power has a clean record in Africa. Whether it's the U.S., China, Russia, France, or others, engagement has too often been about strategic advantage, not mutual respect or equitable partnership. The U.S poses more of a risk to African sovereignty and stability than any other country. The country has a long track record of backing coups, propping up authoritarian regimes, or undermining democratic movements when it suits its strategic or economic interests.

It’s a shame that many corrupt African leaders accept foreign aid offered under the guise of programs like USAID—a tool often presented as humanitarian or development-oriented, but which has served U.S. geopolitical interests far more than the needs of African nations.

What Africa is facing is bigger than USAID; instead of sovereignty, dignity, and a real partnership, it's being pawned in global power struggles of systemic issues of foreign aid often structured to serve donor interests, maintain control, and prevent African autonomy. As Kenyan thinker Patrick Lumumba puts it: “They gave us the Bible and took the land. Now they give us aid and take our sovereignty.”

  4. The US general need to mind his business in focus on United States of America let them people over in Africa build their country up help their black people just leave him alone I understand us general you trying to fit in you want to be like by the white people so you have to do extra dumb stuff so they can pay you some money at the end of the day you the president over at Africa is minded his business the US general need to mind his business we already know you the house Nick Roy

  5. Dear West: it's not gonna work line it did with Gaddafi. You all lied. We know you lied…we know why you lied….you need Africa's riches. You have done the Luumumba for years…but black people aren't falling for the lies anymore. Pls stop the bs

  6. As a black man and a former Marine, it pains me to say that this general is wrong and is a puppet to this regime here in America. Ibrahim Traore is the truth and has every right to use his country's resources as he see fit.

Traore is a live demonstration of what we can and should do here n America, if not helping out over there.

  7. I get it 🎉

Africa giving gold and oil = Peace and "freedom" for Africans

Africa refusing giving what belongs to their ppl. = WAR ! Cuz there/they are terrorist…😅

  8. The American people are not the American government. We, the people, are being robbed and used as slaves in our own country. Being robbed of our money, poisoned with processed foods. Kids sent to fight and die to then be forgotten. Congress needs to be held accountable. Love my people, not my government.

  9. I am ashamed that a military man is so duplicitous and caniving that he would say another country is misusing it's assets when America is in the state it is. Aren't we misappropriating tax fund by supporting Israel,Ukraine and others without support from the people or concern for citizens welfare? Get your shit right before you worry about Africa ,unless you're positioning to steal someone's golden goose. Russias business deals with Africa are none of your concern ,nor is China. USA worries about keeping people inslavery so hard it can't help itself

  10. Calling the black man a traitor?? To be fair, Africa sold us for alcohol and tobacco, never tried to retrieve us, abandoned us here then come 100s of years later to mock and spit on our culture, put the same boots on our necks that the Europeans have done for centuries. Ehhhhh, he’s justified in not caring for any African country.
