Police black bear shooting caught on camera; NY community outraged

Residents in a Westchester County neighborhood are voicing their outrage after a Harrison police officer shot and killed a black bear. Some residents said the bear wasn’t an immediate threat to the public and one wildlife rehabilitation expert said killing the bear was “inhumane.” FOX 5 New York’s Richard Giacovas has the latest.

  1. Lets reverse the outcome for a min. (A) – Police see the Bear in residential area > (B) – Do Nothing > (C) – 3 hrs later, 2 children are mauled and killed in their backyard = How would that be? You need to also look at: Potential Risk to the Community. I am not a Hunter, Pro-guns or Bear-hater. You need to look at the entire scope of potential outcomes.

  2. So sad. I live in PA and there’s a lot of black bears here. They don’t bother anyone nor would they attack someone purposely. It could’ve been a better outcome than this.

  3. “At the interest of public safety” was just an excuse. I lived among black bears in north western Connecticut. They didn’t bother me nor my pets. Species superiority crap. Disgusting. Harrison police are disgraceful. SHAME!!

  4. A bunch of morons who think bears are cute and never think they could get hurt. It's the same mentality as the type of dumb tourists who walk up to wild animals in Yellowstone.

  5. In most states , it's illegal and unethical to shoot a bear or creature that's up a tree. The bear wasn't posing any immediate threat to humans or property. DEM needs better training and updated policies for handling these situations. Such a waste of life and sad.
