Edgar Lungu’s family halts repatriation plans: Sophie Mokoena

The feud between the family of former President Edgar Lungu and the Zambian government has delayed the repatriation of his body. Lungu died earlier this month while receiving medical treatment in South Africa.

His body was supposed to leave South Africa for burial in Zambia earlier on Wednesday. The former Zambian President was expected to be buried next Monday in the capital, Lusaka. A period of mourning has been extended until next week.

  1. I do not like the way this lady reporter from SA speaks she is always biased. strike a balance when you are doing your reporting, do not give your emotion when reporting that's misrepresentation. give a real picture without giving your own individual opinions.

  2. South Africa is a playing ground for these corrupt African leaders after destroying their countries and hospitals they come and die in South African hospitals and now in death he is still frustrating the South African resources

  3. I feel ashamed on behalf of Zambia. I can imagine the resources put together and the stop at the same time. I don't know what to say but I feel the pain of the South African government.

  4. This is silly and foolish
They can make us start being part of the useless drama, if they dont want to bring the vody back let them keep it that side we have things to do to we have weddings to prepare

  5. Very embarrassing.. SA tried to be nice to the Lungu family now they will change their mind bcoz it's now too much.. you're taking advantage of SA for being nice to you.. that is not yo country don't be stable abeg

  6. From now onwards, South Africa should not allow sick zambian politicians to receive treatment in South African medical facilities. This is grossly embarrassing. One family cannot hold two national governments hostage.

  7. This family must foot the bill going forward! No tax payer's money should be wasted on unnecessary drama, we have our own issues to deal with in SA.

  8. Why Zambia government doesn't give 100% responsibility to the family and only assist when they need help, for example, they can assist in bringing body back to Zambia and family choose what happen to it in Zambia

  9. Edgar Lungu was an undemocratic person who never accepted defeat by Hakainde .All this is happen does not sense at all the lungu family are making decisions based on political emotions .Hakainde was tormented by lungu but he never hold grudges.

  10. Sophie Mokoena always has a side! She says the truth of one side and never for the other side! A former President gets pulled out of the plane when he needs to leave for medical treatment and you don't comment on that as unjust!! 🙄🙄Who does such things to an ailing person not to mention a public figure like Lungu and you don't see the errors in HH because he was once a victim!!

  11. If, as Zambians, we are sick and tired of this whole nightmare I can only imagine the exasperating this must be on our South African brothers and sisters. this embarrassment exceeds our worst expectations. I hope the S.A refuses entry to any Zambian govt officials who seek medical attention there maybe that way they can work towards improving their own health facilities so that when they decide to get sick and die they can do that peacefully in their own land and spare innocent people the shenanigans

  12. The President of Zambia 🇿🇲 has officially concluded the National Mourning period and has extended his apologies to the President of South Africa, following the decision by the family of the late President not to repatriate his body—despite preparations made by the South African Defence Force for the send-off.

Zambia's Ministry of Information and Media is ever ready to answer any queries SABC has.

  13. Nobody is accusing the upnd government here the truth the government mistreated the former president she should report the truth next time he was mistreated he was denied to go for medical treatment and how do you hold a private church service for someone you never liked when he was alive without involving his family to prove what and for what exactly

  14. my surprise is you people you are just talking any how without knowing where problem is, let's keep quiet and hear how their going to say because AS government their not stupid to allow president to be buried there and allow this court cases to be done sooo shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
