The family of the late former Zambian President Edgar Lungu has announced that Lungu will be buried in South Africa.

This after a feud between the family and the Zambian government not reaching an agreement on how to send-off the former leader.

Lungu died while in South Africa receiving a specialised medical treatment.

  1. The family was influenced by lungu's party, the PF. The government tried everything they could, but Lungu was such a confused element. Let them bury him that side. We're tired as Zambians.

  2. Poor analysis by your SABC international editor. Her narrative is stuck in her historical time of one person in this saga. A leader demonstrates statecraft at this moment without fail. One is dead. The other is in power. Look at the dynamics. The family has suffered a loss.

  3. This man was a president in a country that he hate . In such a way that he doesn't even want to sleep in it. And would rather sleep in a foreign country. What a disgrace for Zambia. Let hope his spirit doesn't manifest in South Africa.

  4. But I think that it's best for his excellency Mr President to be buried in his ancestral land 😢
    Privately, if the family wishes.
I can only imagine how hard it is for them to deal with loss and the drama.

    Not in South Africa.

  5. I appreciate that Sophie Mokoena emphasised that it's a private matter and that the RSA govt will not be footing any bills. In this day and age where a lot of state money is stolen and gets misreported by news sites with agenda: I'm glad to know itwon'tt be an issue that could become a diplomatic indicent later on, people won't be able to say corruption around this burial and Pres. Lungu can be laid to rest in peace

  6. For the first time in the history of Zambia, a member of parliament lawmaker was abducted by state agents. He named them and even audios leaked. Hakainde never addressed the nation about it. Never even bother to investigate because state agents were either Tongas or Lozis. Today that MP (JJ Banda) is a refugee or political prisoner so is Tayali and so is Kaizer Zulu. Let that sink in.

  7. As a Malawian with roots in Zambia, am sad it had to go this far. I hope some day we will find time to reconcile among ourselves. Where politics is involved let's learn to do it with civility.

To departed President ECL, I say sorry, we are confused on how best to honour you. Rest in peace.

  8. Problem is entitlement. Some people feel like they own a country and when they are out of power fail to join ordinary people they thought they own. The family should just have let bygones be bygones and bury Mr Lungu in his country of origin. He might be repatriated later by some people to correct this mistake

  9. I wonder why people have more sympathy with ECL who really mistreated HH beyond human being,. HH respected Lungu and never harassed him the way HH was harassed. And for those who feel it's well for ECL to be buried in SA and to refuse government to handle the funeral use foreign presidents who were in exile died and buried abroad instead of using the example of late KK whom PF warned that they would bury him even without family members despite that KK wanted to be buried where his wife Betty is buried? Let their be fairness here.

  10. The response from my fellow South Africas in the comments are so sweet, but please this is a whole former President he must be layed to rest in his home country Zambia. President Lungus family is confusing me or is there more to this than a funeral?💔
