¾Hi Neil De Beer. Here is my opinion on South Africa and its current situation. Mandela's release was planned, negotiated and discussed. Mandela then made the announcement, , while still serving as the President of South Africa, that he wouldn't seek a 2nd term. Mandela also divorced Winnie not long after he became a free man and married the late Mozambique President, Samora Michelle's, widow., wife, ex wife. Mandela came to the realisation while still serving as the President that he needs to step back, stay out of politics and keep his mouth shut . It is very sad to me that Mandela was used as a "foot in the door" by the ANC party to exercise a prolonged and calculated revenge on the oppressive regime.
