From Bhojpuri Beats to Billion-Dollar Deals: Modi’s Caribbean Blitz Begins With Trinidad And Tobago

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s landmark visit to Trinidad and Tobago is more than a diplomatic gesture—it’s a powerful homecoming filled with strategy, symbolism, and substance. After more than 25 years, an Indian Prime Minister is stepping foot in this twin-island nation, marking 180 years since the arrival of Indian indentured labourers aboard the Fatel Razack. Today, over 45% of Trinidad and Tobago’s population is of Indian origin—many of them political, economic, and cultural leaders.

But this visit isn’t just about the past—it’s about charting the future. From massive oil and LNG reserves to strategic Caribbean geography, Trinidad is key to India’s ambitions in Latin America and beyond. The Modi government is expected to sign MoUs in agriculture, health, IT, and renewable energy, establishing long-term cooperation.

India’s HALT initiative and agricultural projects in Trinidad reflect a shift to high-impact, tech-led development diplomacy. Meanwhile, the Modi address at the Couva Velodrome, expected to draw 4,000+ people, symbolizes India’s unrivalled soft power through diaspora links.

The conferring of the Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago—the nation’s highest civilian honour—on PM Modi underscores the deep respect between the two nations.

This visit is the launchpad for a bold, forward-looking India-Caribbean strategy.

  3. NAMASTE!! WELCOME To Trinidad and Tobago, honorable prime minister Shri Narendra Modi, you are a true peace keeper on God's magnificent planet. I know our ancestors are smiling down on us, they gave us an identity, culture, demonstrated to us hard work and sacrifices…..we thank you all for great work ethics, instilling compassion, empathy , unity, peace and love. Sending out congratulations to our dearest prime minister of Trinidad andTobago, the honorable Kamla Persad-Bissessar and her TEAM for an awesome celebration.

  4. I was born in South Africa, (grew up in Toronto, Canada), I always wonder when I see stories of Indian "migration" to Trinidad, Guyana and other countries when migration from India happened around !860's, when my ancestors were taken to South Africa. I wonder how many relatives I have from that time in these countries, thinking that members of a family may have landed in different countries and were cut off from each other. Trinidadians, Guyanese, Indians in Africa, still maintain many aspects of our traditional Indian culture, despite adapting to these different countries.

  5. Wayz shocking to see how India treats foreigners! I am not going to a country that threat people like shit! Scamming them for their money and robbing them! Is it better to stay in my country!
