BARRON COUNTY, Wis. (WEAU) – A bear attack prompted a search for a black bear by The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. A 69-year-old woman is in the hospital following an attack near the Town of Comstock in Barron County Saturday afternoon.
The victim was able to call 911 around 2 p.m. and was taken to the hospital. Her condition is unknown.
Law enforcement started that search for the bear and were only able to find a cub up on a tree. DNR officials said this is indicative of a “sow and cub.”
The efforts to find and capture the bear is ongoing. The goal is to euthanize the bear and assess its condition. Several bear traps have been set in the area of the attack.
