South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has fired Higher Education Minister Nobuhle Nkabane following misconduct allegations raised by his main coalition partner, the Democratic Alliance (DA). The DA accused Nkabane of lying to parliament to cover up fraudulent appointments to key education boards. Her removal comes just over a week after Ramaphosa suspended his police minister over alleged links to organised crime. With the ANC now relying on coalition partners to stay in power, the move is seen as an attempt to ease tensions within the fragile unity government. The DA has warned it could exit the alliance over corruption concerns.
