Nile Dam Conflict: Egypt’s Ally Trump Again Claims US Funded Ethiopia’s GERD | Firstpost Africa

In the Horn of Africa, tensions are escalating tensions over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), a massive hydroelectric project vital to Ethiopia’s development but viewed as an existential threat by downstream nations, particularly Egypt and Sudan. At the heart of the current friction is U.S. President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly claimed that the US funded the dam. The Ethiopian government has consistently denied his claims. Trump’s vocal support for Egypt’s concerns over the dam, including his past suggestion that Egypt might “blow up the dam,” raises questions about his motivations. Trump’s backing for Egypt is tied to broader geopolitical interests, specifically his desire for Egypt to support Israel’s agenda in the Gaza conflict, including plans for establishing a “humanitarian city” near the Rafah border. 1. "misinformed by his staffs" what a wise choice of words. As citizens, we've voluntarily and proudly given our whole monthly salaries many times to the dam's realization, despite the fact that it was deducted from our modest paycheck. We, Ethiopians, are resilient people!

  2. Dont confuse ethiopian civil aviation authority power with ethiopian airlines.

For charterflight, overflight landing and departures the permission are only granted by ethiopian CAA .
SO EAL is an operator bro by itself .
    Stop spreading your hoax !

  3. That's the cost of Africans. Whenever they see a way forward for development and pursue it, some “incumbents” from the West will suddenly emerge and try to restart everything.

  4. it is Ethiopia's inalienable right to utilize its natural resources as it sees fit.Egypt has been greedy for such a long time, and sabotaged every attempt made by former Ethiopian governments to harvest its natural resources.the water is enough for all.leave Ethiopia alone.God bless Ethiopia & Eritrea.

  5. It is up to Egypt whether the water is reduced or not. They have to find their own means, not holding Ethiopia responsible for possible misfortune regarding usage of the dam by Ethiopia. who dictates a country for using its own resource in own territory. We are fed up of this egoistic nature of Egypt. A country that doesn't know co-existence and cooperation.

  6. Thank you for your diplomatic response but the truth of the matter is he hates Ethiopia. Never ever truth comes from this man. Under his command masked ICE kidnap innocent men from streets simply accusing as a criminal. Again, under his watch Netanyahu committing crime against humanity yet encouraging the criminal.

  7. Who cares who Trump supports, that's irrelevant. This is an African issue that the Africans can sort out themselves. Why do international countries like to stick their nose into things that don't concern them, that's the problem with this world today.

  8. The Egyptians built Aswan high dam. Ethiopia is doing the same. There is no way Ethiopia can stop the Nile Where will they take the water? Power generation does not stop the water. Instead it uses the energy in the flowing water as it passes. How do you generate water if it does not flow downstream? Kenyans are now benefiting from power imports from Ethiopia. This cooperation is the way forward for Africa.

  9. Both Trump and the Egyptian president didn't think Ethiopia could have accomplish this construction by itself, due to this they are angry by now and trying everything possible to destabilize my beloved country 'ETHIOPIA'. Please leave us alone!
