African-American First Friday will return to York City’s Penn Park this week.
Organizers say the free, family-friendly event will bring people together to support Black-owned businesses, celebrate African and African-American culture and share African history with the broader community. It will run from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Penn Park, 100 W. College Ave.
August’s event marks the return of the summer series this year, and it’s back to its original home at the historic Penn Park. African-American First Fridays started in July of 2020 to uplift the Black community.
Food and product vendors will be set up with a mix of local goods from Yorkers and people in the wider region.
It features live sets from DJ Pooh and DJ Negmawom, as well as an open mic night where community members can share their voices.
Alongside the music, there will be dance fitness sessions, speakers, a youth dance battle and other activities for the kids.
Games from the spring and summer basketball league will also go on during the event.
