Ivory Coast: Thousands Protest Exclusion of Ouattara’s Rivals from Elections | Firstpost Africa|N18G

Ivory Coast is facing a growing political crisis ahead of its October presidential election. The country is seeing widespread public outrage and protests following the electoral commission’s decision to bar several key opposition figures, including former President Laurent Gbagbo and Tidjane Thiam, from running in the polls. The exclusion of President Ouattara’s rivals has been met with anger and frustration, with thousands taking to the streets of Abidjan to demand a revision of the electoral roll, electoral reforms, and fair elections. At the heart of the crisis is President Alassane Ouattara’s controversial bid for a fourth term. Ouattara’s candidacy is contested after he changed the constitution in 2016 to remove presidential term limits.

  1. Ivorians should look at the economic statistics. They have witnessed hyper economic development over the past decade. They should not cause another destruction. Please please don't destroy and set back your achievement.

  2. The message is cristal clear!!!
More than 600.000 people in the streets.
It's also a msg sent to France, backing an alledged democratic individual, seeking for 4th term and at the same time refusing other big leaders to compete.
People will fight against this nonsens.

  3. France imposed us Ouattara in 2010. We Don't know him.. He is very violent and all he does is to emprison the ivoiriens that oppose to his constitution violation. We want him out from our country he and his rebelles that are serving in our country after committing so many cruel crimes..

  4. Allassane is a cancer against the well-being of the Ivory Coast and its neighbors among which the Burkina Faso, Ouattara's native country. An impostor, He and his racist, colonizer wife Dominique Nouvian, a white French Algerian chased out of Algeria, destroyed the Ivory Coast with their greed, their murders. He is such a pitiful economist whose doctoral dissertation amounts to a mere 40 pages, that the country's debt was multiply tenfold without nothing tangible to justify it except for badly and cheaply built bridges and tunnels mainly in Abidjan, the capital city. There are no jobs for the youth,, Ivorian's lands are forcedly grabbed,, poverty is rampant. Only Allasane and Dominique Nouvian''s family and friends without any good degrees are controlling the country's wealth and jobs. Alassane is a puppet president in the hand of France and the imperialistic western countries to destroy, oppress and plunder the wealth of the Ivory Coast and that of French current colonies in Western Sub-Saharan Africa including his own original country , Burkina. He is seeking a fourth antii-constitutional presidential term while he wasn't supposed to even have one term being a foreign national from the Burkina Faso his true country of origin. Dominque Nouvian , a white French Algerian woman and the Burkinabe , backed by France who is still controlling militarily Cote d'Ivoire created a rebellion by manipulating some population from the Nothern part of Ivory Coast. After using them for their dees, these toung manipulated northerners true Ivorians were killed one by one: service man Ibrahim Toure, Issiaka Ouattara, Gbon koulibaly, Ahmed Bakayako, Amadou Soumahoro or put in jail or exiled: the case of Guillaume Sora or Soul to soul.

  5. FROM WATCHING I GIVE CREDIT TO OUATTARA BECAUSE IN NIGER MALI OR BURKINA THE OPPOSITION HAS NO RIGHTS TO MARCH LET"S BE HONEST HERE BIG CREDIT TO OUATTARA EVEN IN TOGO THE MARCH WAS SEVERELY DEALT WITH BY POLICE

  6. Dear Palkisha,
Please look into Ivory Coast political crisis that is dragging on for the last 30 years Ouattara enters the country as financial expert appointed by IMF although being a foreign national.

  8. Dramane Ouattara was imposed by France at the head of the country. He is a despot and runs the country out of intimidation (police harassment, arrest of oppostions' leaders). We are fed up and he will be accountable for any conflict which will occur in our country.

  9. Ouattara is a dictator and murdered so many Ivorians ever since France Sarkozy military forces imposed him as president of the Ivory Coast against the will of the large majority of Ivorians. May God help us get rid of him and his cronies

  10. Ouattara is the best president the ivory coast has after Houphouet Boigny. Stop your propaganda. The oppositision doesn't have nothing to offer to the men and women in the country. This opposition wants power just for revenge from 2010 crisis and will not happen. Our country is prospering because Ouattara and we will keep it that way. Why don't you complain about china germany russia and other head who have been in power for ever? Leave us alone. You saw thousands protesting( may 6 thousand) wait to seen hundreds of thousand on the 23rd marching in support of the current president.
