Whitehouse community center remodel moves forward after facing delays

WHITEHOUSE, Texas (KLTV) – Construction work to remodel an old Whitehouse community center was faced with several discoveries that led to delays.

The building consists of two separate foundations that are in the process of being combined into one space, according to Whitehouse City Manager Leslie Black.

“We knew combining those two buildings into one space, where we could really maximize the spaces available to our community, was going to come with challenges and it’s followed through on that expectation,” Black said.

She said the original foundation was lacking rebar and some of the walls were not filled in.

“We’re not calling them problems. We’re for calling them discoveries along the way,” Black said.

Originally, the building was scheduled to be completed in May of 2025. Black was unable to provide a new estimated completion date.

“I can assure you that we are all ready to be done with this project, and excited to open it for our community,” Black said. “But we also feel it’s really important that we get it right. We don’t want to rush it and make decisions just to hit a date. We want to make sure that we’re building something that lasts and is a good investment for our community.”

Once completed, Black said the building will provide a workspace for those who may work from home, spaces for students to gather and for organizations to host events.
