LIVE: US-Venezuela Tensions Escalate in the Caribbean Sea After Fighter Jet Incident

Tensions between the United States and Venezuela have escalated after two Venezuelan F-16 fighter jets flew dangerously close to the US. Navy destroyer Jason Dunham in the southern Caribbean Sea. The Pentagon called the manoeuvre “highly provocative” and warned Caracas against interfering with its counter-narcotics and counter-terror operations. The incident followed a US strike on a Venezuelan boat that Washington claimed carried gang members, killing 11, while Caracas accused Washington of extrajudicial killings. President Nicolas Maduro has since mobilised Venezuela’s National Militia nationwide, vowing resistance if attacked. With Trump’s administration deploying more warships, the Caribbean standoff is rapidly intensifying.
