The U.S. military captured survivors following a strike Thursday on a suspected drug-smuggling vessel in the Caribbean — the first such incident since President Donald Trump began authorizing deadly operations in the region last month, according to a defense official and another person familiar with the situation. The strike is believed to be at least the sixth carried out in waters near Venezuela since early September, and the first in which survivors were recovered by U.S. forces.

I read an update on the case. Seems like the survivors have been returned to their home country, and by not prosecuting them in the US, the administration will not be required to provide evidence in court showing that they were, in fact, transporting narcotics. Is it just me or does that sound rather fishy? Why not prosecute them in the US if they're so sure that they were drug boats? Why release drug cartels?
