In a statement, the Department of War said “the Secretary of War has directed the Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group and embarked carrier air wing to the U.S. Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM) area of responsibility (AOR).” The area of responsibility where the aircraft carrier strike group is headed includes the Caribbean Sea, Central and South America, and the waters around Central and South America. There is some speculation that the Trump Administration ordering the ships towards Latin America could signal US military action against Venezuela.
