‘Too many black people in adverts’: Reform MP | LBC callers react

Reform MP Sarah Pochin has apologised for any offence caused after saying “it drives me mad when I see adverts full of black people, full of Asian people”. She said her comments were “phrased poorly” but insisted that many adverts are “unrepresentative of British society”.

  1. What Sarah Pochin is inadvertently advocating for is perfect representation. Maybe ask her when Reform will publish their employment equity plan to make sure all employers make sure their employment practices reflect perfect representation.

  2. People serm to forget these adverts are produced by Advertising Agencies who usually do tests on groups of people to and use psychologically to get you to buy these items. If it didn't work they would be unemployed . The advert is put the the company and they make the final decision. If they are happy and it works, is it fir her to whinge!

  3. When your paying your utility bills or shopping in the supermarket Reform voters aren't thinking about inflation, oh no they are thinking about diversity and how many times they can say woke in a day. Cos Nigel tells them it's important. Daft as brushes.

  4. I don't get why there are not more Chinese or Asian of that colour.
I think somewhere around 1 in 6 people on earth are of that persuasin.
Also, not enough people in wheelchairs or with gross disfigurement on adverts for stuff like sugar pops, and why do we not see more waitrose ads with folk with stoma bags?

  5. James' final point at the end is the real bottom line in terms of who we see on TV: The last hurdle to jump will be homeliness representation in the industry. Colin Farrell gets to play the Penguin, but Danny DeVito doesn't get to play the hotshot leading man.

  6. Of course they're unreprasentative of UK society … but if advertising was based strictly on population demographics there would hardly be any POC on the ads …. and honestly … does anyone even watch tv anymore? Read a book …

  7. If British companies want Black or Asian viewers to buy their products, then they better have these races in their adverts!
If people don't like it then Black amd Asians should stop buying British products shown on TV that don't show every demographic and they shouldn't pay the BBC license either!

  8. Ads with blacks aren’t showing reality. Like an ad shows a black man saving a woman from a predator white guy trying to kidnap her or harassed her, which is the exact opposite that happens every day all day everywhere

  9. Drives me mad that last election reform won 14% of the nations vote but gets 86% of media time including the BBC because they say provocative enraging things- the representation of mixed races in the media is perhaps making up for the lack of recognition in the past from ads to sitcoms to make up products 4% of uk population is black 2.4 million people in contrast white English people who have homes in Italy – 6 million, the local tv does advertise Walls sausages so there ya go- like to see less of reform please
