There are strong views that Starlink could be closer to launching in South Africa following a directive by Communications Minister Solly Malatsi to the telecoms regulator to review its local ownership rules.
Malatsi issued the directive to the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa last week.
It could pave the way for Elon Musk’s SpaceX and other satellite-internet companies to operate in South Africa without meeting the 30% local black ownership requirement.

That must never be aloud, now that Americans are voicing their discontent, he is not patriot, greedy capitalist 😡
Totle mistake, they meant
"High possibilities that Starlink might surveil in South Africa"
Am happy i didn't waste my vote at MK the party that doesn't have patience for nonsensical people
No, if starlink is coming here and still applying BEE it must not come here, only work with our racist ANC government if you make them break and remove their BEE act, BEE is racist and anti-everyone.
So Elon will be given a go ahead to spy on us,?
We cannot allow starlink to opporate in South Africa atleast for now because we all know the owner of Starlink and his friend Trump are enemy number one of South Africa they dont lile South Africa especially black South Africans so they are not to be trusted they can attack SA via drones. This is a serious matter and should be treated as such.
😂😂😂
BEE must be banned period
People have to explain to us why we want/need Starlink. How would it benefit everybody?
The corrupt ANC and BEE is hold us back. No wonder we struggle with jobs. Starlink will allow me to work in remote areas.
“High possibility that it might”…. If there was ever a waste of words
What a joke, denying such value to South Africans.
So Musk finally WON ????!!!!!!!!!
Bribery and Corruption, they succumb to Corruption
look beyond the surface 3d and wake up !!! to 5d–STARLINK will benefit all south africans VIVA starlink VIVA
We don't want Starlink in South Africa Elon is racist
Sure, the people don't need internet in 2025. It's more important that the cadres make their millions whilst they slowly run the ship aground.
We cannot allow Donald Trump and Elon Musk to bully us to compromise our principles. Elon grew up like a cheese boy because of the Apartheid system, he's a beneficiary. 🤔
Do we trust Elan Musk not to use Star-link to spy on our citizens and use it to harm S Africans. 🇿🇦
Tathagate…
Musk is running this anti anc global movement.
It's unfair ya how can you accept him back without the Afrikaaners
Starlink was stolen from oppressed South Africans. I remember that this business was started in Soweto or maybe KwaMashu. Then the white people stole it. Around 1985. That's why we need redress.
We don't need star Link in south Africa, Mr president please respect our words we voted so we have the writes to tell you what we want and what we don't want,
Star Link,s aim is to spy us with every information about our country to supply Europe that's what Elon musk came to do in our country, nothing more, he's doing that for Israel and USA
Stupid people in SA running it IMO.
When they mandate race based ownership… I say close down all operations in SA and leave them to the Stupidity of their choice.
SA is simply not able to lead or innovate on their own. Fk em IMO.
Every time someone introduces a policy, they say what they believe the purpose of the policy is. Most of the time this sounds great on the surface, and it makes sense because we do need to address many issues in our country to improve access to things for those who have less, and we need to safeguard our resources and our freedoms, but temper that with rules that prevent abuse of freedom. What is not happening, is the necessary check and balance of rules to prevent the abuse of power, to entrench corruption and to prevent a growing chasm of elitism vs poverty. The purpose of any policy is easy to state in words that we can all understand. This begs the question, why does the government insist on penning policies that say one thing, but mean another, and yet another purpose is sold to the public via media like this. We the people of South Africa cannot watch or listen to anything that comes from SABC or 702 or news 24 for instance, because your journalistic efforts are exceedingly weak and putrid, and you are obviously not providing a service to the people, but rather providing a service to the bidding of the very ones who are lying and pretending that policies are there to help us. They are not. If they were, we would have seen some positive change in the last 6 years of at least one new policy per day for the duration of the last 6 years.
whoever is managing your on screen writs needs to be fired – shockingly lazy work.
SA may use Starlink in Q1 2026
“High possibility “ Where? SA Media is pathetic. How could you blatantly lie?
