Canada Joins US, Australia & China In Warning Travelers On South Africa | Firstpost Africa | N18G

South Africa is facing heightened scrutiny due to a significant rise in violent crime, leading countries like Canada to issue travel warnings urging extreme caution for its citizens. Violent incidents such as armed robberies, carjackings, and kidnappings are pervasive, particularly worsening after dark in city centers and townships. Other nations, including the United States, Australia, and China, have also raised concerns regarding safety, with warnings about assaults and the targeting of specific groups such as foreign nationals and LGBTQ+ individuals. In 2025, South Africa’s murder rate has surged, with police attributing the violence to illegal firearms, exacerbating the nation’s alarming crime crisis.

  1. We in south africa know the rules, 1st world people don't:

    * Never stop at a stop street at night if there are no other cars
    * Never stop at home if a car followed you for a while
    * Lock your home throughout the WHOLE day
    * Don't go "for a walk" in cities, or even suburban areas if there are squatter camps nearby
    * In fast food places, if someone bumps into you or talks to you out of nowhere, they are going to pickpocket you (that happened to me)
    * The hard truth: If you are white, dress normally or well, YOU ARE a target. Don't flash, don't draw attention
    * At the airport DO NOT accept transport from the many people advertising there. Use UBER or family and friends
    * Do NOT go to ANY active place, club or bar, in city areas UNLESS you stay with a crowd or have many people going with you
