Your guest: "I don't think I am interested in validation of the West" – said in a Western Language on a Western Medium with Western accompaniments surrounding her (most notably, the products of electricity). Level of introspection = 0!
These are not English though if they are not used by the majority of English speaking countries, they are just local creole words that solely exist in Africa.
The 'English' Dictionary of Diversity and Non-English Words
Don't be surprised one day Toto and kpekus will make it too
Amala is Amla
Who speaks those words besides people from that country?!?!
They got their own dictionary don’t they??? Why you need their foreign words in English dictionary when we don’t even use them beyond isolated groups?!?!
What's wrong with that? Why would we not allow some nuances from other countries! Let's be all a little bit more relaxed about it.
Thank you Wana 😊
Comment section acting like they'll be forced to learn and use these words
"Wahala" is next.
It's a SLAP on the face of the Nigerian so called Elite.
I was growing up in Nigeria when it was a shame to speak Pidgin English, or letting your peers know that you live in Diobu Port Harcourt or somewhere in Ajegunle in Lagos.
Fela Kuti will be smiling 😂 in his grave now.
Yeye people 😂
Is Nigeria still discussing about Lingua Franca for the country?
Most Brits and Amercians only speak English, and at best, a second language (badly).
I will make an appeal. TAT is cuter than nyash
It's nigeria not west Africa
YANSH not NYASH
I found a very interesting word in Dr. Joseph Greenberg's " Languages of Africa" from the Songhai : Buti. It means vulva
I'm happy Nyash make it to dictionary. The word "Nyash" is very important 😂😂😂
Pidgin English made these addition possible
Appropriation
Great! Now I don't have to translate when I order Amala from a French Restaurant….😅😂
So among all the words is Nyash they went and pick Okay ooo😂😂
I am so happy that nyash made it to Oxford.
Nigeria is very interesting 😂
No need to be happy is a way to psychologically restrain you for having your own international acceptable pigeon dictionary
Do people even use dictionaries anymore? Don’t they just search google and Ai?
Oga is the next one to be added
There are a number of these added Words originally from Ghana🇬🇭 such as; "Obroni, Abrokyire, Hiplife, Adowa, Kpanlogo, Ampesi and Light Soup" among others.
Amala means good gesture or good fortune in IGBO language. This translation could be included also.
They are Nigerian words and not West African. When it's Nigerian and good you say West African but if it were something bad you would say Nigerian.
Naija 😁😁
